Lower Cholesterol and Aging: A Two-Way Relationship

As we advance in age, not only does it become much difficult to lower cholesterol, it has been clearly proven that aging promotes the elevation of serum cholesterol levels. This can partly explain why senior people often have higher blood cholesterol levels than that of youngsters. Older people with higher cholesterol levels also statistically die more readily than older people who have normal blood cholesterol levels, though not always from cardiovascular disease.

It seems that the effects of aging on lower cholesterol work both ways. In a two month study conducted upon older people with high blood cholesterol levels, which were given multivitamin-trace mineral supplementation therapy, including EDTA treatment, it has shown that lowering cholesterol levels can in fact promote a reversal change of the aging process. Then again, aging is only one contributing factor to our ability to lower cholesterol. If older people would integrate dietary changes and exercise into their daily routine, they can significantly lower cholesterol, even though their starting point due to their age can make it more difficult than younger people.

As women get older and reach their menopause period, their cholesterol level increase significantly and as they reach their 60’s their cholesterol level become averagely equal to the blood cholesterol levels of men at that age. By the tome women reach the age of 65, their cholesterol level becomes lower than that of men at their age, just like it was before women has reached their menopause.

It seems that one of the major elements in the aging process effecting cholesterol levels is the HGH or Human Growth Hormone. It has been proven that as we get older the release of the HGH (by the pituitary gland) during sleep decreases. The reason this affects cholesterol level is a negative way, is that HGH normally helps the body reduce the LDL cholesterol level (low density lipoprotein), also known as the bad cholesterol that promotes atherosclerosis. That is why the reduction in the growth hormone also manifests itself in an increase in blood cholesterol levels.

Stepping into a well balanced low in cholesterol diet, vitamin and mineral therapy, regular exercise and Yoga practice, can not only help older people lower their cholesterol naturally and safely and without side effects, it can also significantly inhibit most symptoms related to the aging process.
