Vytorin: Two Drug Combo to Lower Cholesterol
In the efforts to lower cholesterol another drug combo named Vytorin, has been manufactured and is aimed at reducing both the absorption of dietary cholesterol or the cholesterol that comes from the food that we eat, and by inhibiting blood cholesterol, the cholesterol that is naturally produced by your liver.
Vytorin contains two famous drugs each with its own specific function. Vytorin combines the effectiveness of Ezetimibe also known as Zetia with the statin drug, simvastatin (brand name Zocor). While Ezetimibe works by inhibiting the body’s ability to absorb the dietary cholesterol, the cholesterol that comes from the food you ingest, Zocor inhibits the production of cholesterol by your liver, which in normal cases will produces just the right amount of cholesterol needed to build cell membranes for cell membranes, to produce Vitamin d and other hormones. However, with people who have high blood cholesterol levels, usually from hereditary causes, the liver produces an excess of blood cholesterol, which later deposits into arteries, leading to heart diseases and strokes.
Like most drugs to lower cholesterol Vytorin can cause serious side effects and is definitely not suitable for everyone. Nursing or pregnant women should not take the drug, along with people who have liver problems or severe allergies. Some of the side effects of Vytorin include: muscle weakness, or sudden muscle pain, headaches and shortness of breath.
If you experience any severe allergic reactions, breathing problems or significant muscle pain, it is highly advisable to report it to your doctor right away. Other cases that require immediate professional intervention, is when Vytorin to lower cholesterol is taken along with other medications, or foods that can negatively interact with the drug. Usually before taking Vytorin to reduce cholesterol, your doctor may run some blood test to diagnose whether you have liver problems, before, during and after the Vytorin treatment.
Vytorin is effective in both lowering blood cholesterol and inhibiting cholesterol that comes from food. But you got to ask yourself, are the side effects really worth it?
Because preventing the liver from producing too much blood cholesterol is almost impossible to achieve without drugs, using the natural approach to lower cholesterol can replace the Zetia function, not by inhibiting the absorbs ion of food cholesterol, but through healthy and balanced dietary changes, that can also help the body, by raising the HDL good cholesterol, to eliminate the bad cholesterol and thus prevent major chronic conditions related to high blood cholesterol.
